Daan Mogot

Envisioned by Daan Mogot, the Tangerang Military Academy was established on November 5, 1945. Mogot was inaugurated as the academy's first director.

Daan Mogot was killed in the "Lengkong Incident." This incident was part of the disarmament process of Japanese troops in the various regions in Indonesia, but was the most costly in terms of human life.

The disarmament and repatriation of Japanese troops were part of an agreement between the goverment of Indonesia and the Allies that was reached on November 30, 1945. After shalat on Friday, January 25, 1946, a group of cadets from the Tangerang Military Academy and three officers from the People's Security Army left for Lengkong, Serpong, on three trucks and one jeep from the Tangerang Fourth Regiment.

They arrived at the Japanese military headquarters in Lengkong at 4:00 pm. The peaceful procedure started without incident. Suddenly, the Indonesian troops and cadets were fired upon by hidden Japanese troops.

The battle didn't last long and was lop-sided. At the end, 33 cadets and three officers were killed.  The officers were Lieutenant Soebianto Djojohadikoesoemo, Lieutenant Soetopo, and Major Daan Mogot. Another officer, Major Wibowo, was taken hostage by the Japanese. More than 10 cadets sustained serious injuries and 20 others were taken hostage by the Japanese.  Only three cadets were able to escape and arrive in the Tangerang Regiment Commando Headquarters the next day.
